Each October, SNBC celebrates the importance of afterschool programs for Sunset District kids and families. Every year on the 3rd Thursday in October, SNBC and thousands of communities across the country shine a light on afterschool programs with Lights On Afterschool, an event that recognizes how important afterschool programs are for our kids as they learn and grow.
This year, SNBC celebrated Lights On Afterschool with various events at each of our afterschool programs. Students at Francis Scott Key and Ulloa Elementary Schools participated in parades around the neighborhood, while Sunset Elementary and A.P. Giannini Middle School welcomed parents to join their kids in participating in afterschool activities.
At Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary, students, families, and staff took part in a carnival (complete with a “Pie Your Teacher” activity!) and at West Sunset Rec Connect, students created an outdoor art installation to literally shine a light on their afterschool program.
