Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center is offering a free Conversational English Class for Parents. See flyer (pdf).

This is an 8-week course. Childcare provided for children over 4 years old.

Class starts on 10/7, ends on 11/25.

Get rid of those electronic items safely and for free. Bring them to the Sunset Festival on Saturday, September 27, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, at the Sunset Recreation Center on 28th Ave and Lawton St.

We CAN take:
Screens (i.e. televisions, monitors & LCD displays), home and office electronics, small kitchen appliances, computers, wire, metals, batteries, vacuum cleaners, etc.

We CANNOT take:
Refrigerators, stoves, florescent light bulbs or other hazardous materials for disposal such as paints and chemicals (or anything with liquid)

Funding Opportunity: Sunset Family Action Grant

The Sunset Community Convener Program is offering Sunset Family Action Grants to parents who are interested in creating parent support projects. Projects can include social events and community projects. Modeled after the First 5 Parent Action Grants, it is our goal to fund family/parent led programs that support the following:

• Community building
• Support and education for parents or for parents and their children
• Parent leadership development
• Family activities development

The Sunset Community Convener will provide on-going technical assistance to projects including leadership development and one-on-one assistance with the outcomes of each group project. Detailed information can be found in the application (PDF) here.

Award amounts: $1,000 - $2,000
Grant due date: October 17, 2008, 5 pm
