Free Workshops for Instructors of Parenting Classes

June 24, 2008

In February 2008, the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center distributed a Family Survey to 167 Sunset parents. We found that about one-third of the parents that we surveyed would like community organizations to offer more Parenting Classes/Workshops. To increase our capacity to provide parenting classes in the Sunset community, SNBC will offer a series of Parenting Instructor Workshops for parents and those who work with parents, so that we can help parents/caregivers in the community to strengthen their parenting skills.

This 16-hour Parenting Instructor Training is offered by Professor Yu-Wen Ying from UC Berkeley, School of Social Welfare. She is also a practicing Clinical Psychologist. This curriculum will cover general parenting skills, principles as well as other needed skills when working with immigrant families. Parents and staff who are interested in offering parenting classes are highly encouraged to register. Once the participant is finished with the training, the Sunset Community Convener can assist with the planning and implementation of your parenting classes/workshops.
