Community Council

The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) is a community resource that brings diverse people together and facilitates their civic involvement.

The SNBC Community Council is composed of youth, parents, community members, businesses and representatives from neighborhood. Since establishing itself in 1996, SNBC has been extremely successful in engaging young people in its programs. Presently, SNBC is placing special emphasis on strengthening its connections with the broader Sunset community. To this end, the SNBC Community Council is always looking to recruit additional membership.

The SNBC Community Council's current role is to serve as both a project-oriented group that helps to provide support and resources at SNBC's events. Additionally, it serves as an advisory body for SNBC staff to receive input on school-based and community programming in the Sunset.

Goals for the SNBC Community Council:

  • Have both youth and adult members, and be a Community Council that represents the diversity found within the Sunset community.
  • Engage members of the Sunset community who have been underrepresented in SNBC's collaborative relationships and programming.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the resources SNBC's various programs makes available to the community.
  • Help SNBC identify resources and partners within the neighborhood that will support and enhance SNBC programs, allowing SNBC to better serve the community.
  • Interface more closely with the content and planning of SNBC programs and events.
