Urban Music Program

San Francisco musician Jon Bernson founded the Urban Music Program, a music program dedicated to teaching and spreading a passion for music. What began in 1997 as a group of eight kids and one small turntable is now a multi-site audio program for both youth and young adults. In the Urban Music Program, participants learn to DJ, make beats, conduct field recordings, and write, record, and produce music using ProTools, FL Studio, and Logic.

The Urban Music Program now operates 5 weekly programs:

• DJ Club at A.P. Giannini Middle School
• DJ Club at Ulloa Elementary School
• Audio Classes for the SF High School of the Arts
• Alumni Beatmaking at SNBC
• Advanced Studio Sessions at Sunset Youth Services (SYS)
