SNBC's Afterschool Guide
The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) produced The Best of Both Worlds: Aligning Afterschool Programs with Youth Development Principles and Academic Standards to contribute to the growing body of work that is deepening the quality of afterschool programming. This document contains samples of SNBC’s application of California Department of Education content standards to innovative project-based learning clubs. It provides samples of project club outlines, single lesson plans, and blank templates for creating a program's own club outlines and lesson plans. It also includes the youth development framework for practice that guides much of SNBC’s work.
A full copy of SNBC’s publication, The Best of Both Worlds (131 pages, full color), can be purchased through our partner, UC Davis.
SNBC's work was recently the basis of a report written by the Youth Development Institute in a recent publication series. Click here to download Practices to Keep in After-school and Youth Programs: Engaging Middle School Youth Through Project Based Learning Clubs (PDF).
