Megan Agee brings more than 10 years of experience to the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center with an extensive background in nonprofit management. Megan has worked with SNBC in a variety of capacities since 2002, first as SNBC's Safety Network Community Organizer, then as the Director of Community Programs and subsequently as SNBC's Deputy Director. In January 2012 Megan succeeded SNBC’s founder to become the Director of the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center. As SNBC’s Director, Megan provides leadership within the SNBC staff team and works to maximize the organization’s ability to meet the unique needs and interests of the Sunset community.  Recognizing that the Sunset District is rich with intergenerational families from diverse cultural backgrounds, Megan has helped lead SNBC to adapting its existing programs and develop new services to meet local residents’ needs.  Integral in this effort have been Megan’s trusting relationships with key stakeholders, including program participants, SNBC’s partners, funders and donors, and local leaders at the city and state level. Megan has long been passionate about promoting educational and developmental experiences for children and families, serving as an advocate for foster youth, young children, and the adults who care for them. Prior to joining the SNBC team, she conducted legislative work at a foster youth advocacy organization in Sacramento and also did policy research and analysis at First 5 California. Megan has also served as an AmeriCorps member, coordinating school-based youth service-learning programs for a collaborative agency in East Palo Alto and Palo Alto. Megan holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Stanford University, where she graduated with high honors. Born and raised in Davis, California, Megan seeks to bring the same tight-knit feeling to the Sunset as she felt growing up in this small Central Valley town.

Ruby Li joined SNBC in early 2005 and now serves as the Director of SNBC Operations. In her position, Ruby directs and coordinates SNBC’s daily business budget and operations, manages personnel processes, and develops systems that promote SNBC’s effectiveness.  Ruby also acts as the liaison between SNBC and its fiscal agency, Aspiranet. Prior to joining SNBC, Ruby worked in the corporate retail industry for many years as a retail planner and buyer for companies such as LVMH Group, The Sharper Image, and Macy’s West. Ruby holds a bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of San Francisco.

Sean Yeung has worked with immigrant children and families for over two decades; he began working at A.P. Giannini Middle School in 1994 and joined the SNBC team in 1998 as the Community Programs Coordinator. Now the Director of Afterschool Programs, Sean oversees SNBC’s afterschool programs at Francis Scott Key, Ulloa, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Sunset Elementary Schools. In addition, he manages the day-to-day operations at SNBC’s afterschool program at A.P. Giannini Middle School, which serves 265 students every day. Sean is a contributing writer to the SFUSD/ExCEL “Implementation Guide,” which assists new afterschool programs. Born in Hong Kong, Sean was raised in San Francisco's Richmond District and is a proud product of the San Francisco public education system. Sean holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University and graduated from Boston University with a master's degree in Social Work, with a concentration in clinical work with children and families.

San Francisco musician Jon Bernson is the founder and coordinator of SNBC’s Urban Music Program (UMP). Initially a DJ Club for middle school students, the Urban Music Program has grown into a full audio program providing people of all ages with an outlet for artistic expression. Jon coordinates the Urban Music Program at multiple sites and oversees the program’s mentor instructors, who help students further their knowledge of DJ’ing and writing, recording, and producing music. Outside of UMP, Jon is the songwriter behind several musical acts, including Ray's Vast Basement, Window Twins, and Exray’s, whose music can be heard in the movie The Social Network. He is a member of the Howells Transmitter arts collaborative and has written original music for dozens of plays and films. Jon holds a bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College and has studied at Oxford University and Sarah Lawrence College. Prior to joining SNBC, he worked with Teach for America before founding the Urban Music Program.

Nathaniel Carter began working with SNBC in 2000 as a contracted computer class instructor and assumed his current role as Technology Coordinator in 2001. As the primary IT personnel for SNBC, he supports SNBC’s technology needs and manages the technological resources at multiple sites, including SNBC’s three community computer labs. Nathaniel works to integrate technology throughout SNBC’s programs and provide the community with educational opportunities that are focused on and enhanced by technology. Offerings include basic and advanced computer classes for participants ranging in age from 10 to 80. Nathaniel also provides leadership to several of SNBC's youth programs, including SCREAM, a high school filmmaking group; MOUSE Squad, a student-led technical support program at A.P. Giannini Middle School; and BAMboozled.org, a online literary platform for and by high school-aged youth. Nathaniel earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from San Francisco State University and holds an MBA in Sustainability from Presidio Graduate School. He has been a volunteer adult ally with TEAM! and is a long-time drummer with the Brazilian music and dance group Fogo Na Roupa. He enjoys chess, literature, and guitar.

Rymo Cortado serves as SNBC's Case Manager. He was born and raised in San Francisco and is the proud father of three boys. He graduated from John O’Connell High School, which was once located in the Sunset District at what is now Sunset Elementary. Rymo has been working closely with at-risk youth since 2002. Rymo's day-to-day duties include mentoring youth at A.P. Giannini Middle School; he works closely with school administration to support at-risk students. In addition to handling juvenile justice matters and facilitating conflict mediation, Rymo conducts a weekly boys group and one-on-one mentoring sessions with students. Rymo is passionate about hip hop and the arts and is an accomplished musician.

Kyle Giocomo first began working with SNBC in 2005 and has been the Afterschool Program Coordinator at Ulloa Elementary School since 2007. Kyle manages a staff of 14 Program Instructors who serve 180 elementary students each school day. Kyle grew up in the scorching deserts of Arizona and found his passion for working with youth after a two-year stint teaching English to elementary and junior high kids in rural Japan. Kyle holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Humboldt State University and a master’s degree in English from San Francisco State, with a concentration in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Kyle is proud to be a part of the unique and linguistically diverse community of parents, students, and faculty at Ulloa Elementary, a Title I Academic Achievement and Blue Ribbon School. His hobbies include travel, kayaking, and photography.

Kristin Rumery holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography with a minor in Spanish from the University of California, Los Angeles. As a student, Kristin served as the Director of Community Outreach for Dance Marathon at UCLA, the largest student-run philanthropic event on the west coast. This annual event involves hundreds of students literally taking a stand and staying on their feet for over twenty-six hours to raise awareness and funds for pediatric HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and research. Upon graduating, Kristin worked as an Admissions Officer for UCLA Undergraduate Admissions where she served nearly 100 high schools in the Los Angeles area, as well as Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas and Boston. Kristin joined SNBC in early 2013 as the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator, supporting SNBC’s communications, development, and community engagement activities. Outside of her work at SNBC, Kristin enjoys spending time with her loved ones, exploring San Francisco and traveling near and far!

Monica Guzman joined SNBC as the Sunset Family Resource Collaborative (FRC) Coordinator in early 2012. Monica brings years of direct service experience working with youth at various non-profits and afterschool programs. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Cultural Anthropology from San Francisco State University, she worked as a program manager for a local afterschool program and later as a social worker for children with developmental disabilities. Monica pursued graduate studies to further her advocacy skills for historically underrepresented communities. While obtaining her Juris Doctor degree at Santa Clara University, she did extensive public policy work advocating for youth and communities of color in their legal and educational rights. As the Coordinator of the Sunset FRC, Monica leads a collaborative of agencies to ensure that Sunset families receive the services needed to strengthen family function and enhance community connections. In her free time, Monica enjoys rock climbing, road cycling, playing board games, and seeing live shows. She also tries to travel regularly and spend time with her large extended family, all of whom live in the SF Bay Area.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Eva Ong has given back to the city she loves by volunteering for many years with youth and seniors. Eva participated in former Assemblywoman Fiona Ma’s internship program, the MaSquad, in 2011 where she volunteered for SNBC. Now, as SNBC’s Administrative Assistant, Eva provides vital support to SNBC’s myriad programs and continues to brighten the lives of others with her warmth and enthusiasm. Eva holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies from San Francisco State University, where she recently graduated with honors. Outside of her work at SNBC, Eva loves to bake, cook and eat! She also has a lot of fun changing her hair style and color every few months.

Allan Ma joined the SNBC team in 2009 as a Kindergarten and 1st grade Program Instructor at Francis Scott Key Elementary. In January 2011 he transitioned to his current role as the Afterschool Program Coordinator at Sunset Elementary, where he manages a staff of 12 Program Instructors who serve over 150 students each day. Allan received his bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego in 2009. In his free time, he enjoys softball, acapella, live concerts, and sporting events (Go Giants!).

Annie Ma works as the Program Coordinator at Francis Scott Key Elementary School, where she and the FSK team serve 265 students every school day. Along with her afterschool responsibilities, Annie leads a Girls’ Book Club that takes place during lunchtime on Tuesdays. Prior to working at SNBC, Annie worked for three years at the Edgewood Center for Children and Families, first working as a relief counselor and eventually serving as team leader.  Currently, Annie is working on a Master's Degree in Public Administration. Annie was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States in 1980. She has lived in the Sunset for most of her life, going to school at Ulloa Elementary School, A.P. Giannini Middle School, and Lincoln High School. Annie holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University, with an emphasis on child development.

A member of the SNBC team since 2010, Mandy McGowen is the Program Coordinator at West Sunset Rec Connect (WSRC), where she designs and manages programming at the West Sunset youth clubhouse. WSRC is part of the Rec Connect Initiative, a citywide partnership between the Recreation and Parks Department, local nonprofit community organizations, and the Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families. Mandy brings 10 years of teaching experience to SNBC; she has taught theater, English, and cooking and has a background in cross-country running and podcast reporting. Mandy earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Irvine; she also holds a master’s degree in educational theater from New York University. After receiving her MA Mandy moved back to her favorite city, San Francisco, and joined the SNBC team as a Program Leader at SNBC’s afterschool program at Ulloa Elementary School, leading the Homework Club and a 5^th grade class. In the fall of 2011 she expanded her role at SNBC by joining West Sunset Rec Connect as the Mini Meals instructor; in December of that year she took on her current position as the WSRC Program Coordinator, where she manages a staff of 4 instructors who collectively serve 60 youth each day.

Patrick Montgomery joined SNBC in the fall of 2009 as the Evening Program Coordinator, working to strengthen and grow SNBC’s Adult Evening Programs offered at A.P. Giannini Middle School. As someone who is always studying and learning something new, Patrick appreciates the opportunity to provide programming that allows Sunset residents to learn new skills while connecting with other community members. SNBC’s popular evening classes serve over 300 adults each week. Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Cultural Anthropology from California State University, Fresno. Having lived extensively throughout East Asia including in Macau, Hong Kong, and Japan, Patrick is fluent in Japanese. His professional background includes seven years of bilingual (English/Japanese) radio broadcast production, working as a professional photographer in Tokyo, and consultancy work in Japan.

Helena Silva joined the SNBC team in the fall of 2010 and is the Afterschool Program Coordinator at Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School, where she and her staff of 7 serve over 80 students each day. Prior to working at SNBC, Helena worked at Robert Louis Stevenson as a Physical Education teacher, utilizing her degree in Kinesiology from Humboldt State University, where she competed in Track & Field. In addition to teaching, Helena also served as an Assistant Track & Field coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory School. She began working with SNBC as a Program Leader at Robert Louis Stevenson prior to becoming the Afterschool Program Coordinator.
