A member of the SNBC team since 2010, Mandy McGowen is the Program Coordinator at West Sunset Rec Connect (WSRC), where she designs and manages programming at the West Sunset youth clubhouse. WSRC is part of the Rec Connect Initiative, a citywide partnership between the Recreation and Parks Department, local nonprofit community organizations, and the Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families. Mandy brings 10 years of teaching experience to SNBC; she has taught theater, English, and cooking and has a background in cross-country running and podcast reporting.
Mandy earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Irvine; she also holds a master’s degree in educational theater from New York University. After receiving her MA Mandy moved back to her favorite city, San Francisco, and joined the SNBC team as a Program Leader at SNBC’s afterschool program at Ulloa Elementary School, leading the Homework Club and a 5th grade class. In the fall of 2011 she expanded her role at SNBC by joining West Sunset Rec Connect as the Mini Meals instructor; in December of that year she took on her current position as the WSRC Program Coordinator, where she manages a staff of 4 instructors who collectively serve 60 youth each day.
