Connecting people to their Passion, Potential, and Community.
From volunteer, to afterschool program leader, to community & family services advocate, for more than 10 years SNBC’s Lisa Lin has been hard at work giving back to the community she grew up in. Since 2014 Lisa has been an integral part of SNBC’s strategy to connect high-need families in the Sunset with a variety of resources as SNBC’s Coordinator for the Sunset Family Resource Center (SFRC).
Q: How have SNBC’s partnerships with other organizations expanded over the past year?
A: Beyond the services the SFRC provides, the Food Pantry on Fridays as well as our participation in the Baby Box program has certainly kept me busy! Our partnership with The Baby Box Co. in particular has really taken off since we started being a distribution center for the program beginning in January of this year. A great program that provides new and expecting families with a “starter kit” for their infant, we’ve distributed over 132 Baby Boxes as of July 2017!
Q: What is a part of your job that you love?
A: A part of my job that I take great joy in is the opportunity to connect with the families in the community through the everyday conversations I have with them. It all starts with a simple "How are you?" There is a certain fulfillment that goes along with acknowledging the families’ needs and enjoying the gratitude expressed by the community when they are able to tap into resources they've had difficulty with connecting to before.
Q: What kinds of partnerships or services do you hope come to the Sunset in the future?
A: While we have every reason to be proud of how many people are currently served by the Food Panty we oversee—an average of 180 families each week—I would love to see an expansion of the service to homebound individuals here in the Sunset.
